When I sat down to gather a list of all the books I have read on relationships, hurt, and healing I was stunned. I knew that this had been a theme in my life and a never-ending struggle, but I had no idea how much I had read on the subject.  So here goes...a very long list of books that may help you on your journey to healing.

{Not to be missed books have an asterisk beside them.}

Relationships

*Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions-Ever vomited on one of your relationships or been vomited on? Every woman should read this book on how to deal with emotions!

*Enemies of the Heart: Breaking Free from the Four Emotions That Control You-A look at anger, guilt, greed, and jealousy. This book is not to be missed!  I have even used it to teach youth groups, and currently am reading it to my teenage sons. The lessons are invaluable.

Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life-One of the first books I ever read on relationships.

*Foolproofing Your Life: How to Deal Effectively with the Impossible People in Your Life-This is a book that I am willing to read again. Such great advice.

Everybody's Normal Till You Get to Know Them-Love the title of this one and the wisdom within.

So Long, Insecurity: You've Been a Bad Friend to Us-Insecurity is the source of a lot of relational angst.

Dealing with Hurt/Abuse

*Healing the Wounded Heart: Removing Obstacles to Intimacy with God- Great book to help a person through the process of healing. It's companion book is below, The Healing Journey.

*The Healing Journey-This is more of a journal than a book. It guides you through about 100 Scriptures that you meditate and journal about. Each Scripture is designed to speak truth to you about your situation to help you heal. This has been one of the BEST exercises in healing I have ever done!

*The Wall Around Your Heart: How Jesus Heals You When Others Hurt You-Mary DeMuth uses the Lord's Prayer to lead you to healing.

*Shame Interrupted: How God Lifts the Pain of Worthlessness and Rejection-Any book by Edward T. Welch is well-worth the read. Shame is very much a part of broken relationships. Welch also has great books on anxiety and depression.

*Finding Spiritual Whitespace: Awakening Your Soul to Rest-A memoir of a woman's struggle to find healing after dealing with an abusive family of origin.

People of the Lie: The Hope for Healing Human Evil-Not Christian-based, but an insightful look at how evil works in people and how it spills out onto others.

Healing The Child Within: Discovery and Recovery for Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families-Also not Christian-based, but a great explanation of how to recover from a dysfunctional family background.

Forgiveness and Reconciliation

*Total Forgiveness-One of the best books I have read on the subject.

Prayer of Revenge: Forgiveness in the Face of Injustice-The title sounds harsh, but it is worth the read!
