I have found a new, favorite author, Mary DeMuth!  A few months ago I read her book, The Wall Around Your Heart: How Jesus Heals You When Others Hurt You in which she uses the Lord's Prayer to show how God can lead us to healing after people have hurt us in life. {Here's my full review.} Recently, I picked up another one of her books entitled Everything: What You Give and What You Gain to Become Like Jesus, and I have to say that her words really resonated with me!

The book contains three sections:

Head- What We Think
Heart- Who We Are
Hands- How We Live

Each section has chapters that focus on one topic and how we can become more like Jesus.  Even before the book really gets started {in the preface}, Mary gives such words of wisdom...

Nothing significant in the kingdom of God happens unless death occurs.

Wow! I had never thought of it that way, but there is truth there.  Death brings life.

Mary also touches on worry later in the book...

Worry is a weighty monster with poisoned tentacles. It clutches us, grabs at our minds, steals our breath, our will. It lurks. It pounces.  It colors how we perceive the world. But God whispers peace in the midst.

At the end of the chapter on worry she offers a "worrywart prayer" that you can pray to give over your anxiety to God. {It has been my experience that it needs to be given over and over again as I tend to take the stuff back from God once I have given it.  Sigh.}

I also loved her chapter on "Be an Am" in which she talks about how we need to live in our present and not dwell in the past {a hard thing to do!} Mary talks about how our past can cage us so that we can't transform to be more like Him.

Throughout the book, she really focuses on how we can grow in Christ.  There were so many great thoughts in here that I wholeheartedly recommend Everything!  Mary will challenge you in your walk with Christ to become more like Him.
