Grace for the Good Girl

Thursday, January 26, 2012

I confess.  I am a good girl.  It isn't a matter of boasting.  It is more of a matter of wiring.  I have always been a rule follower, a people pleaser, and a perfectionist. So when I saw Grace for the Good Girl: Letting Go of the Try-Hard Life I knew I would eventually need to read it.  There were so many concepts and lessons that I needed to learn or be reminded of

like...

"Jesus didn't value what people thought; He valued people."

"During His life of earth, He never tried to explain Himself for the sake of His reputation."

"To remain in Him means to refuse to get up from His lap."

But the greatest lesson I needed to be reminded of is that there is grace for those that are so wrapped up in making life perfect.  Life isn't about perfection.  Life is about receiving God's grace in our weaknesses.  Abiding in His strength when we feel like we don't measure up.  If we are truly "saved by grace" then we don't need to do anything more to be accepted by God.  We are already accepted, already loved, already perfect in His eyes.

I am focusing on abiding in His grace and learning how to let going of the "try-hard life" and resting in His acceptance of me.  I am learning that what others think of me isn't as important as what He thinks of me.  I am realizing that when I totally accept His grace and love that my insecurities, negative emotions, and the masks that I wear tend to melt away.
