To Kill a Mockingbird (Booking It)

Saturday, June 11, 2011

My goal this year has been to read some of the classics that I never did in high school.  I went to three different high schools so my education definitely has some gaps in it. One of the books that I have been meaning to read for quite awhile is To Kill a Mockingbird: 50th Anniversary Edition. A friend of mine years ago told me that I just had to read it...that it was so touching and moving. She spoke the truth.

I so want to be Atticus! I wish that I could be the type of person that he is...full of grace.  This year my Word of the Year is "grace".  I am striving to be more gracious in my dealings with people. Atticus, the father in the book, fits this description.  He doesn't judge by outward appearances or actions of others.  He realizes that there is always a reason that people act the way they do.  He doesn't excuse them in their bad behavior, but is rather gracious to him.  If you have never read To Kill a Mockingbird I highly recommend you do!

I haven't read To Kill a Mockingbird in a long, long time, but I remember loving it. While it does have some hard things in it, it's mostly just a great look at Southern life. I should read it again, I think!
