Advent is such a special time of the the year, anticipating the arrival of Christ. Our family has many great memories of the season leading up to Christmas. Here are a few of the the resources we have used over the years to make ourselves mindful of the real reason behind the season:

When the kids were in elementary school we would read one of these books each Advent. These stories are amazing! Filled with adventure, humor, and touching moments, the plot captivated all of us. The story progresses each night until you reach Christmas day. Another bonus? Each of the three stories intertwine with the other two!

Jotham's Journey

Bartholomew's Passage

Tabitha's Travels

If you are looking for a way to focus on Advent that is more suited to teens and adults then Ann Voskamp's, The Greatest Gift, would be a great choice.

Her book is based on the concept of the Jesse Tree in which you walk through the family of Christ and their stories to arrive to find Christ at Christmas. Buying the book gives you access to ornaments that you can print and hang each day after the reading. Last year we used her book and ornaments. To read how I got the ornaments read for the tree see this post, All That Glitters are God's Gifts.

This year Ann has come out with a children's verse of The Greatest Gift called Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas

Each day contains a Scripture passage, devotion, and suggested activities for families to do together. The illustrations in this book are amazing!

Another great resource is Jesus, Light of the World. Written by my friend, Candace, over at His Mercy is New. This devotional leads you through Scriptures on light. Here is my review of a great resource to help you focus on Christ this season.

So how will you celebrate Advent? How will you focus on the coming of Christ?

This is GREAT! Darren and I are working on an Advent devotional to give with the Advent wreaths he makes.
