Weekly Wrap-Up: In Which We Review Fractions Again!

Friday, October 1, 2010

This week has gone smoothly. We are finally in a regular routine.  The only major problem this week has been that I have recovering from a pretty nasty cold.  Luckily, I spent almost all of Sunday sleeping to fight it off.

I have had to revamp Zach's math.  It is becoming abundantly clear that he needs to work through Algebra I at a slower pace so that he can soak up the concepts.  We are going to spend the rest of the year doing only the first half of Algebra I and reviewing lots of concepts.  Zach will then finish Algebra I in the fall semester of his 9th grade year.

Noah is plugging along on his schoolwork...we are getting near the end of Apologia's Botany.  I think we will be moving on to Human Anatomy...I just need to order the books!

One thing that we have added for Zach's school is Key to Fractions. He is still struggling with dealing with the details of fractions. So I decided to buy books 1-4 so that he can do a thorough review of fractions. I really like how these books are set up.  They are clear in their instructions and go step by step. I am so hoping that after going through this series that Zach will have a clearer picture of how to deal with fractions. Zach is currently in 8th grade and doing Algebra I, but he still has a mental roadblock when it comes to fractions. If any of you have great ideas for teaching him concepts with fractions let me know!

I can totally relate to Zach's mental roadblock against fractions! But the Key to Fractions books sounds good. I'll keep them in mind. thanks! Hope you're over your cold...
