When You Have a Mouth Problem

See what they spew from their mouths--the words from their lips are sharp as swords.  Psalm 59:7

We all suffer from the same sickness. What I would call "verbal vomiting".  Have your words ever made a mess on another person? Have you wished you could stuff those syllables back in where they came from? Have you caused permanent damage with the lashing of your tongue?

We ALL have. Not a single soul is immune...

I have been working through Mary Kassian's Bible study, Conversation Peace this fall. What I love about this study is that it is so practical. Who doesn't need to clean up their speech a bit? Sometimes we are too critical. Sometimes angry words fly. Sometimes we gossip. An overhaul in our words is what is needed. There are daily lessons (they take me about 15-20 minutes) which are the main part of the study. At the end of each daily lesson there are "tongue tonics" which give down-to-earth ideas on how to improve your communication with others. And Mary offers up "breath fresheners" which are basically memory verses for each week of the study.

{Lies vs. Truths}

Many times we don't realize that our mouth problem doesn't originate with the mouth. A mouth issue is first a problem of the heart...a belief system that has gone awry. The lies we believe eventually become heart problems that we "vomit" onto the world around us. One of my favorite parts of the study is a long list of lies we believe in which Mary provides the truth to dispel each lie. This is where is all starts...with the little lies that eventually make a big verbal mess!

Conversation Peace is so worth the effort. If you are looking for a new Bible study this would be a great one to choose!
