Jealousy {Think On These Things}

Jealousy is an ugly emotion. It creates hatred, harbors anger, and destroys relationships, but the fact of the matter is when we are jealous of someone they are actually NOT our problem. Jealousy means we have a problem with God! You see, the person you are jealous of can't do anything to change your feelings. For example, if you are jealous of your friend's beauty, how can she change that to make it better for you? Should she make herself ugly?! If you are jealous of someone's wealth, does that mean that person has sinned against you? No. You really have a problem with God. He hasn't given you what the other person has. It is an issue between you and Him, and it stems from the fact that you are not thankful for what you do have. {To read more about the concept of jealousy and how to combat it, I highly recommend Enemies of the Heart.}

Jealousy can take on another form...a positive form, the jealousy of God. God's jealousy is healthier than ours. He seeks our best. God can become angry when we walk away from Him or put something or someone ahead of Him, but it is for our good that He feels this way. He wants our exclusive devotion, because He knows it will only benefit us. Unlike human beings, God may become angry because of what we are doing, but He won't sin in that anger.
