Sometimes life runs at an incredible speed that we can't possibly catch up with. Other times we are so broken that our days move slowly through the grief. God gently calls us to slow down, be still, and know Him. In focusing on who He is and how He works, we can breathe and heal.
A few years back I waded through grief. There were days I thought it would wash over me, and I wouldn't be able to rise above it. I could barely move from one task to another. Life inched forward as I mourned what I could never get back. I had always been a Bible study kind of girl. I LOVED in-depth analysis of Scriptures. I craved learning more. Then the sadness hit, and I could barely open His Word. During that time, I came across a book, The Healing Journey. The premise was to read a short Scripture, meditate on it, and briefly journal about it. For months, this was my Bible study. No, I wasn't gaining great analytical knowledge, but I was finding as I wrote how much God loved me regardless of what had happened. By slowing down and meditating on a small passage and writing about it, I found what I had missed in all my studies...God's great love for me.
I bought a Journaling Bible, some Highlighter Pencils, and black pens. I continued to focus and connect with His Word and then write about what struck me. It has now become a way of life. So for 2016, I want to continue this journey of slowness. Meditating on His Word and connecting with what He says. He wants me to "think on these things" not race through a bunch of information. To think so much that He changes me from the grieving and rejected girl to the one who is certain she is loved. The way we think impacts our actions and how we live out our lives. Meditating on what He has to say changes us. So each month in the coming year it is my goal to post a printable. A list of verses to meditate and journal about. My plan is to have a different theme for each one. Will you join me? All you need is a Bible, paper, and pen and a few moments to think...
In a few days, I will post the verses for January. I want to focus on how God makes all things new. In the meantime, here is a quick list of the resources I use. You don't have to have these items as whatever Bible you have on hand will work. Any paper {preferably a notebook or journal} will do. However, I LOVE my journaling Bible as it is all in one place. It allows me to go back to a certain verse or passage and see how I connected with it.
Here are some resources:
A single column journaling Bible...
ESV Single Column Journaling Bible (TruTone, Chestnut, Leaves Design)
ESV Single Column Journaling Bible (Black)
