Web Design for Kids
As a part of the TOS (The Old Schoolhouse) Crew we received Web Design for Kids to review. Even though I have a blog I am rather weak in computer skills. Anything I have ever learned to do on a computer has been through trial and error or shall I say, "errors"...lots of them! So I was a little fearful to delve into web design with my kids. Web Design for Kids is a DVD that normally retails for $40, but it is on sale now for $19.99!
We popped in the DVD and I was amazed! The teaching is straightfoward and we were able to create a very simple web page in one lesson! My oldest son (who loves technology) is totally loving the ability to change background colors, arrange text on the page, add pictures and create scrolling text. This DVD teaches HTML in a clear, concise manner that makes it easy for everyone! Here is a list of the lessons that are included on the DVD...
1. 10 Basic Lines of Code
2. Sandwiches and Colors
3. Make a Subject Stand Out
4. Stand Alone Tags
5. Designing Backgrounds
6. Fonts and Paragrahps
7. Pictures
Because you need to follow step by step instructions we found it helpful to have the computer and DVD player in the same spot so that the kids could go back and forth between listening to the instructions and working with HTML on the computer. Your computer only needs Internet Explorer and Notepad which is already on most of them. We really liked Brian Richardson's teaching style and how he even shows the kids what happens when you mess up and don't type the code properly.
We would highly recommend this DVD if you or your kids are interested in learning HTML! My boys are having a lot of fun with their webpages!
